Install iPhone Apps on Your iPod Touch

This article is an answer to the iPod upgrade that is currently costing many people 20$. I don't think it is fair to do so, since the people that buy the iPod now actually get these free. As far as I know I paid the same price for a lesser iPod, I should get the applications for free.

1- Download the files after a search or see my blog for the links.

2-You are then going to unzip these files, and you will end up with 8 file/folders.

3-Place Weather.app, MobileMail.app, Stock.app, Maps.app, MobileNotes.app in /Applications/ on your iPod.

4-Put GMM.framework in /System/Library/Frameworks/ on your iPod.

5-Put N45AP.plist in /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/ on your iPod.

6-Put MobileMailSettings.bundle in /System/Library/PreferenceBundles/ on your iPod.

7-You are going to have to set the file permissions to these apps, so everything you just put on your iPod touch must have the following permission : 755, or the applications will not work properly.

8-Reboot.

You are know on your way to appreciate your new iPod touch applications.

You might be wondering how to put these files on the iPod touch. Well first of all, you have to jailbreak your iPod, click here for more information. Also, you are going to need your iPod's WiFi IP address, if you don't have WiFi, this will not work.

To find your iPod Touch Wifi Ip Address go into Settings>wifi>blue arrow on the wifi network you are using and it will be there.

Once that is done, you are going to need to use an FTP client that supports SFTP (Secure FTP). I recommend CyberDuck for Mac OSX it is free and is real easy to use. For Windows, I suggest WS_FTP for the same reasons. Also these two FTP clients will permit you to change the files permissions easily.

There is a possibility of your apps crashing, the solution to the bug is to:

Open Putty on your windows based system. On OS X, you can use Terminal and write:

ssh root@insertIPodTouchesIpAdresseHere.

Login to your iPod touch

username:root

password: alpine.

Once logged in run the following commands, by typing and pressing enter:
/bin/csh

/bin/chmod -Rf a+x /Applications/*
